An inquest has been opened after the body of a father was found on Blackpool beach just hours after he was reported missing from home.
John Edwards was reported missing on Friday, August 8, by his partner, after he was last seen at an address on Downham Place, Squires Gate, in the early hours of the morning.
Appeals were put out to find the 71-year-old but the body of a man was found on Blackpool beach, opposite the New Oceans Hotel in South Shore, some hours later.
Blackpool Coroners Court yesterday heard a report was received on August 9 that the body of a male was located on the beach opposite the New Oceans Hotel and that it was likely to be the body of a male reported missing to police by his partner.
The court, including one of the father’s daughters and son-in-law, also heard Mr Edwards had seen his GP the day before the events occured.
Opening and adjourning an inquest into the nature of Mr Edwards death, assistant coroner for Blackpool and Fylde Claire Doherty said she intended for the inquest to go ahead in November, after evidence was gathered from professionals, for the family of Mr Edwards to have some “closure” on the events.
The father-of-three was born in Hailsham, Sussex, and later lived in Liverpool before moving to Blackpool. He worked as a telephone engineer at British Aerospace before retiring.
The inquest was adjourned, to be heard in full by Blackpool Coroners Court at 11am on November 25.
