A man caused hundreds of pounds of damage to his girlfriend’s flat after she told him to leave and started packing his bags, a court was told.

Kurt Shaw, 25, of Palatine Road, Blackpool, was found guilty of an offence of
damage after a trial before a magistrates court in his
absence.

He was sentenced to 12 months’ supervision and
ordered to pay £350 compensation for the damage.

He was also put on a one-year restraining order, which bans him from contacting his ex, by District Judge David Scanlon, who was sitting at Blackpool
Magistrates’ Court.

Pam Smith, prosecuting, said the incident happened on September 22 last year.

Shaw’s girlfriend asked him to leave because he had stayed out the previous night.

But, as she packed his bags, he smashed the
bathroom door.

Shaw returned later in the day to her flat and snapped her phone’s
SIM card, damaged the bedroom door and threw items about.

David Charnley,
defending, told the judge: “He maintains his denial of the criminal damage.

“He now has a new partner, and does not want to rekindle the relationship with his ex.”
