A reveller was knocked unconscious after he fell and banged his head during a “nasty and unprovoked” attack in Blackpool.
The 52-year-old man had been out drinking in the town centre when he was set upon by a hooded man at the Seasiders Way car park.
Police said the man, who had been on his way home, stopped to speak to his attacker after he asked him a question shortly after 10pm on Monday.
But instead of responding, the thug kicked him so hard in the back of the legs the man fell, hitting his head on the pavement.
The attacker then rifled through his victim’s pockets stealing his wallet and bag, as he lay unconscious on the ground.
Spotting passers-by, the attacker, who is thought to be in his 20s, then ran off in the direct of Chapel Street.
Members of the public ran to help the victim and called for paramedics.
An off-duty policeman also stopped to help the man who did not regain consciousness until he reached hospital.
Police said the man who was treated at Blackpool Victoria Hospital suffered serious facial injuries.
He is now said to be recovering at home.
The attacker is described as white and was wearing a dark tracksuit with his hood up.
Anyone with information is urged to call Blackpool Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
