A Blackpool man is today waking up behind bars after setting up a cannabis factory at his home.
Liam Melrose, 22, of Hawes Side Lane, Blackpool, was found guilty of producing a class B drug following the discovery of 55 cannabis plants in two upstairs bedrooms.
Melrose’s home was searched on December 21 last year leading to officers uncovering the drug.
He has been jailed for 20 months by Preston Crown Court.
Following the sentencing, PC Steven Salthouse, of Lancashire Police, said: “We are happy with the sentence given today and hope it acts as a warning to other people involved in producing cannabis that it will not be tolerated and you will be caught.
“This was a large scale set up which would have brought misery to the local community.
“I am pleased that we’ve managed to destroy these drugs before they managed to get out onto the streets, and we will continue to tackle the problem of drugs in our communities.”
