Horseplay ended up with a man spending the night in police cells at Blackpool.

Liam Leatherbarrow, an out-of-work engineer, 25, of Earlsway, Euxton, Chorley, pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly at Blackpool Magistrates Court.

He was sent to Preston Crown Court for sentence on June 25.

Jane Yates, prosecuting, said the defendant was with two other men walking along the resort’s Albert Road on May 4 at 3.10am.

A man and a woman were walking behind Leatherbarrow’s group.

One of Leatherbarrow’s group threw a takeaway cup with liquid in it into the air.

The defendant then turned round and punched the man in the face who was walking behind him. The man did not make a complaint to police.

Steven Townley, defending, said something had been going on between the two groups of people, but his client admitted he had drunk too much.
