Man in court on his birthday

Blackpool Magistrates' Court

Blackpool Magistrates' Court

A man found himself in the dock on his birthday after breaching a court order.

Martin Mulvey, 49, of Derby Road, North Shore, pleaded guilty to failing to comply with a community order.

Peter Moran, prosecuting for the Probation Service, told Blackpool magistrates that in January Mulvey had been sentenced to supervision for eight offences of shoplifting and an offence of breaching a conditional discharge.

He kept only nine of the 16 appointments he was given with his probation officer.

Mulvey admitted to his probation officer he had gone on drinking binges and when he did so he forgot things. It was his second breach of the order.

Martin Hillson, defending, said that his client had had a drink problems for a number of years, and he would welcome any help the probation service could give him to combat it.

Magistrates ordered Mulvey to complete a course which involves taking
extra sessions with his probation officer, and getting advice about alcohol consumption.
