A man accused of hitting his girlfriend over the head with a framed picture on New Year’s Eve has made his first appearance at court.

Michael Burns, of Ripon Street, Blackburn, is accused of leaving the victim with cuts to the face.

Appearing in front of Blackpool Magistrates Court, Burns denied the assault and pleaded not guilty to damaging three picture frames and a mobile phone valued at £50.

The offence is alleged to have taken place at a flat the couple shared in Blackpool.

Burns was bailed to April 16 when he will stand trial at Blackpool magistrates Court.

He must not contact the complainant or enter Brovick Road, Blackburn, as conditions of his bail.
