POLICE were today appealing for witnesses after a man was left seriously injured in a hit and run crash in Wyre.

The incident is believed to have happened sometime before 1am on Sunday when the man, who is 44 years old and from Corby in Northamptonshire, was walking along the A586 Garstang Road towards Eccleston and St Michaels.

He was found by a couple lying injured at the side of the road.

Police believe he was struck from behind by a vehicle that failed to stop.

The man sustained injuries to his back and is currently in a serious but stable condition at Royal Preston Hospital.

An investigation is underway and police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Sgt Jon Allwright from the Force Road Policing Unit said: “The vehicle involved in this collision would have sustained damage, in particular to its bumper and front left indicator. I would appeal to the driver to come forward so we can establish the circumstances of exactly what has happened.

“I would also ask anybody that thinks they may have witnessed this incident or with any information that could assist with our investigation to come forward.”

Anyone with any information is urged to call Lancashire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
