A man reacted violently when he was confronted with provocative messages on social networking site Facebook.

Jason Major, 24, admitted assaulting a member of his family when he appeared before Blackpool Magistrates.

He was granted bail pending the preparation of pre-sentence reports.

Adrian Hollamby, prosecuting, said Major, of Ribble Road, Blackpool, became angry when he saw messages about himself posted by his former partner.

He went out drinking and when he returned home lost his temper and hit a relative in the face.

Martin Hillson, defending, said: “This reflects the downside of things like Facebook.

“The postings were meant to goad him and they did.”
