A depressed man phoned police and told them he was on the steps leading to the sea with a knife.
Graham Oliver, 48, of Wilton Parade, North Shore, pleaded guilty to possessing a blade in public on Blackpool’s Lower Walk Promenade.
He was sentenced to eight weeks imprisonment by Blackpool magistrates who ordered the destruction of the knife.
Oliver called 999 on June 21 and said he was upset and had a knife. Oliver told police he was not going to use the knife on himself or anyone else.
He said he started drinking at the age of 12 and had battled his alcoholism.
