A man accused of abducting a 14-year-old boy with learning difficulties and plying him with drugs before sexually abusing him has made his first appearance at court.

William Menzies, 62, of Talbot Road, Blackpool, is charged with abducting and sexually touching the boy.

The offences are alleged to have taken place at Blackpool on August 20 last year.

Pam Smith, prosecuting, asked for the case to be heard at crown court.

Defence lawyer, Brett Chappell, said his client pleaded not guilty to both offences.

Menzies was bailed to appear at Preston Crown Court on May 6 by Blackpool magistrates.

He must not have any contact with anyone under the age of 18 as a condition of his bail.
