A man has been left critically ill in hospital and a second is seriously injured following two assaults in the same area of Blackpool.
Both victims suffered head injuries in the incidents which happened less than 48 hours apart on Queen Street in the early hours of the morning.
The first attack happened outside Bar 19 when a 25-year-old man from Blackpool on a night out was subjected to an unprovoked assault during which he suffered head injuries. He was taken to Royal Preston Hospital after emergency services were alerted in the early hours of Friday, and his condition is today said to be critical.
Det Sgt Simon Pritchard, of Blackpool CID, said: “This was an unprovoked assault. I would appeal to anybody in the Queen Street or Dickson Road area of Blackpool between 1.30am and 2.30am on Friday morning who witnessed this incident or who may have any information which could assist police with our investigation, to contact us.”
Police said no weapons were used in the incident.
The second attack under investigation happened just after midnight on Sunday.
A 21-year-old local man was on a night out when he became embroiled in an altercation with another man and was punched once in the face, and fell hitting his head on the ground.
He suffered fractures to his face and was also taken to Royal Preston Hospital where his condition is described as stable. A 29-year-old man,also from Blackpool, has been arrested on suspicion of assault.
Detectives have asked for anyone with information on either incident to call the police on 101.
