Man charged with murdering Blackpool teenager

Sasha Marsden

A 22-year-old man has been charged with the murder of Blackpool student Sasha Marsden.

David Minto, of Kirby Road, Blackpool, has been charged with murder and has been remanded into custody to appear before Blackpool Magistrates Court on Monday morning.

The body of 16 year old Sasha was found in a back alley in the South Shore area of the town on Thursday.

She had been repeatedly stabbed and her body set on fire after her death, police said.

Sasha, a student at Blackpool and Fylde College, lived in Staining.

Her heartbroken family today paid tribute to their “moving little lady”.

In a statement, her parents, Jayne and Gary, said: “No words can express how we feel.

“Our beautiful daughter has been taken from us. She was a loving daughter, sister, granddaughter, great granddaughter, auntie, niece, cousin and girlfriend.

“She was very much loved and her loss has left a huge gap in all our lives, a gap that can never be filled.”

Sasha’s brothers Mark Brett, 24, and Thomas Nicholl, 21, and sisters Katie Brett, 24, and Gemma Aitchison, 26, have also paid tribute to their sister.

Miss Brett said: “She is a gorgeous little lady and knows how to make an impression and when you meet her, you would never forget her.”
