A man has made his first appearance in court accused of trying to strangle his former girlfriend and writing threats to kill her in his own blood.

Stephen Buckley, a mechanic, 30, of Grasmere Avenue, Thornton, is charged with assaulting his ex, a mother-of-two, causing her actual bodily harm, magistrates were told.

He is also alleged to have written threats to kill her in his own blood on the walls of her home in Thornton on January 9.

The prosecution opposed an application for bail for Buckley by defence lawyer Peter Manning.

Blackpool Magistrates’ Court agreed to bail Buckley, but the prosecution said it was appealing their decision to grant bail.

Buckley was told he must now remain in custody until the result of the appeal hearing before a judge at Preston Crown Court.
