A MAN trying to commit suicide barricaded himself in a flat and police had to break-down two doors to get to him.

Graham Lucas had wrecked items in the rented flat which was spattered with blood.

Lucas, 49, of Park Road, Blackpool, pleaded guilty to causing damage.

He was given a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £250 compensation plus £15 victims’ surcharge by Blackpool magistrates.

Martine Connah, prosecuting, said a witness saw Lucas smash a window at the flat on Palatine Road on August 23 about 1am.

Lucas had barricaded the flat’s front door with an iron bar and police had to use an enforcer ram to smash their way in.

Martin Hillson, defending, said Lucas became depressed when his ex started denying him access to the children and he was prescribed anti-depressants.
