Machete found after rush hour chase

This was the scene after a rush hour chase was brought to an end in Blackpool.

The incident, on Wednesday evening, involved a stolen silver Vauxhall Vectra car which officers said was being driven on false plates.

The vehicle was brought to a halt on Preston New Road with both the Vauxhall and a Lancashire Police BMW sustaining damage.

Lancshire Police said they had been alerted at 5.30pm following reports of a public order offence near Wigan.

The Vectra was then spotted heading north on the M6 near junction 27.

The car was tracked and picked up on the M55 heading towards Blackpool.

A short pursuit on Preston New Road ended when the Vectra collided with a tree and a lamp post.

The male driver fled the scene in the direction of Preston Old Road but was captured by police.

During a search of the car a machete was discovered.

A 21-year-old man from Liverpool was arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking, possessing an offensive weapon and failing to stop.

He is currently in custody.
