A driver came under police suspicion when he made a late exit from a slip road onto the M55 heading towards Blackpool.

Wayne Cryer, a 40-year-old cloth cutter, of Earlsden Avenue, Earby, Barnoldswick, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol.

He was banned from the road for 15 months and fined £250 with £85 costs plus £25 victims’ surcharge by District Judge Alan Jones sitting at Blackpool Magistrates’ Court.

Pam Smith, prosecuting, said police saw Cryer in a Ford Focus make a late exit from a slip road onto the M55 and stopped him on July 13 at 8.30pm.

A blood test showed 116 milligrams of alcohol in his body - 80 is the limit.

He had a previous drink-driving conviction from 2001.
