It is set to be one of the busiest weekends of the year in Lancashire’s towns and cities – and the county’s Police and Crime Commissioner is preparing to hit the streets and see police in operation.
Clive Grunshaw will be joining officers in Blackpool on Saturday, after visiting Accrington on Friday, to see first-hand how one of the busiest nights of the year is policed in the resort.
The Commissioner said: “I am looking forward to going out on patrol in Accrington and Blackpool this weekend, and experiencing first-hand what it is like to police our town centres over the Christmas period.
“I know many residents will be heading out on Friday and Saturday nights and celebrating the last weekend before Christmas, and I hope everyone enjoys themselves.
“But I would urge residents to ensure they are careful if they are heading out this weekend, and to make sure they look after both themselves and their belongings.”
In Accrington, the Commissioner will join officers running Operation Nightsafe on Church Street in the town centre, an initiative designed to make sure everyone has a safe and enjoyable night out.
On Saturday, Mr Grunshaw will join the team in Blackpool town centre to see first-hand how a busy night in the resort is policed.
As well as visiting the town’s bars and clubs, the Commissioner will also witness the policing operation around Blackpool Rocks – a music event which is expected to bring up to 9,000 revellers into the town centre across the day.
