A thief stole a box of lager and threw it at the shopkeeper’s head when he pursued him, Dwayne Greenwoodthen punched the shopkeeper in the head.

Greenwood, 23, of Penrose Avenue, Marton, pleaded guilty to assault and theft.

Adrian Hollamby, prosecuting, said Greenwood and another man stole a box of lager cans from Newhouse News, Newhouse Road, Marton, on October 11 about 10.30pm.

When the shopkeeper chased him Greenwood threw the box, which hit him on the head, and then punched him.

Peter Cave, defending, said Greenwood was drunk.

Greenwood was sentenced to do 40 hours’ unpaid work for the community and ordered to pay a £150 court charge plus £100 compensation by Blackpool magistrates.
