Knife siege drama

Police at the siege in Ansdell Road.

Police at the siege in Ansdell Road.

POLICE negotiators were called in after a drunk man barricaded himself into a house and told officers he would harm himself with a knife.

Police wearing riot gear went to the address on Ansdell Road, Marton, after a desperate 999 call was made by a concerned family member at 9.40pm yesterday.

Officers immediately cordoned off the street while officers surrounded the home.

The 23-year-old man – who was inside the property alone at the time of the incident – came to the door of the house and told officers he would not speak to them before heading back into the property.

A negotiator arrived and after an hour managed to convince the man – who told police he had just returned from serving in the Navy – to come out of the address.
