STEALING steak from a supermarket landed a Blackpool man in breach of a suspended prison sentence and being branded an idiot for his actions by a judge.
Michael Robinson, 47, of Holmfield Road, North Shore, appeared at Preston Crown Court after being committed for sentence.
Andrew Cresswell, prosecuting, told the court Robinson had stolen steak worth £8.80 from Sainsbury’s in Red Bank Road, Bispham on January 25.
The offence put Robinson in breach of a 12-month jail sentence which had been suspended for two years for a domestic burglary which had taken place at night while the occupiers were on holiday.
Fraser Livesey, defending, said Robinson had been making good progress and, but for the shoplifting, had received “flying colours”.
But Robinson had been a heroin addict and was “not going to get there in one go”, the defence added Ahead of sentencing, Mr Justice Hedley told Robinson: “You are a complete idiot aren’t you?”
Robinson said: “I am.”
The defendant was remanded in custody and was being sentenced today.
