Two men have been fined after illegally fishing cockles off the Fylde coast.
Christopher Nicolaides, 25, of Connahs Quay, Flintshire, Wales, and Glen Davieson, 38, of Station Drive, Lytham, were convicted at Liverpool Magistrates’ Court of poaching offences at the Foulnaze bed near Lytham.
Nicolaides and Davieson were found by North West Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authority (NWFICA) officers fishing for cockles without a permit, on August 8 and 21 respectively last year.
Nicolaides was fined £200 and ordered to pay £200 costs, while Davieson did not attend court and was fined £300 plus £300 costs in his absence.
Cockle picking is currently banned off Lytham as stocks are allowed to recover.
