A police officer stopped a soldier who was driving while over the limit because he had an intuition there was a problem.
Shaun McGarry, a 20-year-old Kingsman with the Duke of Lancaster Regiment, of Palatine Road, Staining, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol.
He was banned from the road for 12 months and fined £305 with £85 costs plus £30 victims’ surcharge by Blackpool magistrates.
Andrea Fawcett, prosecuting, said an officer stopped McGarry as he drove a Vauxhall Insignia on Boardman Avenue on November 8 in the early hours. A breath test showed 53 micrograms of alcohol in his body - 35 is the limit.
McGarry, who had served in the Falklands and Latvia, had had three drinks in nine hours plus a meal and he believed he was OK to drive.
