A HOSPITAL worker lost his temper when his girlfriend poured a cup of hot soup over his head while they were staying at a Blackpool hotel.
Paul Pentony smashed a glass in anger rather than retaliate against his partner.
Pentony, a 41-year-old care worker at Calderdale Hospital, of Greengate Close, Rochdale, pleaded guilty to causing damage.
He was given a 12 months conditional discharge and ordered to pay £85 costs and £15 victims’ discharge by Blackpool magistrates.
Pam Smith, prosecuting, said the couple were staying at Blackpool’s De Vere hotel on December 12.
They had been out drinking and after they returned to the hotel at about 1am Pentony’s mood changed.
He picked up a glass and threw it at the back door of their room.
The defence said: “My client decided to make himself a cup of soup.
“For some inexplicable reason his then girlfriend decided to pour it over his head.
“It was hot, he was in pain and rather than do anything to his girlfriend he picked up the glass and threw it.”
