A CALLOUS hospital patient stole the mobile phones of two other patients from the top of their bedside cabinets as they slept.

Lisa Knowles then hid one of the phones under her bed cover as she saw a police officer coming towards her on the ward.

Knowles, 44, of Knowle Avenue, North Shore, pleaded guilty to two offences of theft.

She was bailed for pre-sentence reports with all options including custody to be considered by Blackpool magistrates.

Martine Connah, prosecuting, said two female patients at Blackpool Victoria Hospital on January 31, one in ward 18 the other in ward 19, put their phones on their beside cabinets overnight, but in the morning they were gone.

Knowles was spotted with one of the mobiles, which was a distinctive pink colour.

When interviewed by police Knowles said she had taken the phones while the other patients slept and used them.
