Groundsman on phone at wheel

Blackpool Magistrates Court

Blackpool Magistrates Court

A GROUNDSMAN at the Fylde coast’s most prestigious golf club has appeared in court after being caught using his mobile behind the wheel.

Andrew Moore begged magistrates not to take away his licence when he appeared before Blackpool Magistrates’ Court yesterday. Moore, who works at Royal Lytham and St Annes golf club, pleaded guilty to using his mobile phone while driving along Blackpool Promenade in March.

The 28-year-old, of Glenmere Crescent, Cleveleys, already had nine penalty points on his licence and was banned from the road for six months, fined £100 with £50 costs and ordered to pay a £15 victims’ surcharge.

Michael Leach, defending, said he will appeal the court’s sentence because Moore was required to drive on public roads across the golf course. The ban will only come into force pending the outcome of the appeal.
