POLICE are investigating reports of two men seen acting suspiciously shortly before a terrifying bank raid in Lytham.

Detectives hunting for masked robbers who held up the Santander Bank, on Clifton Street, are following up fresh leads after a Crimewatch appeal.

Officers from Lancashire Police made the appeal for information on the BBC One programme on Wednesday night.

And it has already sparked a number of calls from the public - including a person who saw men acting suspiciously in the area before the raid, which happened just before 7pm on March 5.

Two masked raiders stole £19,000 from security guards after threatening them with a machete and crowbar.

Police believe up to four men were involved in the robbery.

Det Sgt Nick Connaughton said: “Following the Crimewatch appeal we received calls providing information in relation to the robbery and as a result we’re currently following up a number of new lines of enquiry.

“We’ve been pleased with the response from the public but would still urge anybody with any information that could assist with our investigation to contact us on 101.”
