A spate of burglaries in Blackpool has prompted a warning from police.

Residents in Hawes Side are being urged to take steps to protect their homes from thieves after “numerous” incidents were reported in the Vicarage Lane area in recent weeks.

Police say there have been around three burglaries a week in the area, including some where the offender has forced entry to the property.

Insp Mark Morley, of Blackpool Police, said: “There have been numerous daytime burglaries where people have left their property insecure.

“We have also had a number of addresses where people have gone round the back and forced entry that way.

“We have probably had in the region of 10 or 12 in the last month in the Vicarage Lane area alone.”

He said the sudden increase in burglaries was a “problem” and urged residents to follow crime prevention measures.

Around one in three burglaries take place at properties that have been left insecure.

He said: “I would advise people to lock their doors and windows and be vigilant around the Vicarage Lane area.”

Report any incidents to police on 101.
