A HOTELIER’S son who received threats on Facebook drank too much at a party then smashed a cafe window.

Steven Coulthard, unemployed, 20, of The Crofts Hotel, Bairstow Street, Blackpool, pleaded guilty to causing damage.

He was given a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £100 compensation by Blackpool magistrates.

Tracy Yates, prosecuting, said on January 27, at 3am, police went to the Crofts Hotel. They were told Coulthard had been in an argument.

A witness told officers he had seen Coulthard smash a window at the nearby York Cafe.

When questioned Coulthard said he had been at a party at his mother’s hotel and had a row.

He had been drinking rum, vodka and wine and could not remember causing the damage.

Stephen Duffy, defending, said: “His ex-partner’s new boyfriend was making threats against him on Facebook.

“He took it badly, was drinking and there was a dispute between himself and his mum.”

The defence added Coulthard accepted he was a binge drinker and was now seeing an alcohol counsellor.
