A TEACHER who ploughed his life savings into a woodland hut has been left devastated after it was torched by vandals.
Former Kirkham Grammar School pupil Tim Sands starred on George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces, on Channel 4, with his hut, close to Newby Bridge, in Cumbria.
But months of work – and £7,000 in savings – has now been reduced to ash after an arson attack, which also destroyed vital tools and sentimental possessions.
Mr Sands, 24, who is originally from Blackpool but now teaches in Sedbergh, said: “I took a lot of pride in building it, it was built with no professional help.
“It was not built as a cushy retreat for me overlooking Windermere, it was built in an area of woodland I own to facilitate me working on it.
“I’m 24, I don’t really own anything else and this was the thing I threw all my effort into.”
Cumbria police has confirmed it is treating the blaze, which completely destroyed the hut, as arson.
