Drunken mother left boy in rain

Blackpool Magistrates Court

Blackpool Magistrates Court

A MOTHER-of-two was arrested after police saw her nine-year-old son in a distressed state outside his home in heavy rain wearing only boxer shorts.

Andrea Smith’s young son pleaded with a police officer who came to the family’s Staining home: “Please help me.”

Smith, 45, of Chain Lane, admitted breach of the peace and was bound over in the sum of £100 for 12 months by Blackpool magistrates.

Tracy Yates, prosecuting, said: “Police have called at the Smiths’ home on numerous occasions over the last two years due to domestic related matters.”

The court heard how officers saw Smith’s nine-year-old son running around outside upset in bad weather at 7.35pm on October 2.

Smith was inside in a drunken state and began shouting and swearing at officers.

She tried to barge past police and struggled when arrested.

Smith apologised to magistrates for the incident.
