POLICE today revealed they found 1,500 cannabis plants in a disused Blackpool hotel which had been transformed into a major drug-growing factory.
The plants were discovered on Monday following a report of suspicious activity at the Sherwood Hotel on the Promenade, North Shore.
Police said the drugs had an estimated street value of £350,000.
Det Sgt Jane Atkinson, of Blackpool CID, said: “The building is in quite a dangerous condition inside so it has taken a few days to carry out a full search.
“At some point there has been a fire in the basement.
“There are holes in the floorboards and ceilings and there is wiring and plugs littered everywhere.
“It would only have been a matter of time before someone was injured at the property.”
Five men have been charged in connection with the alleged growing of drugs at the hotel.
