POLICE are continuing their hunt for the armed robbers who escaped with cash after launching a terrifying attack on a security guard.
The three balaclava-wearing men were brandishing crowbars and sledgehammers as they demanded cash from the guard, before escaping with the money into a waiting vehicle.
And officers now believe a fourth man – a getaway driver – was involved in the dramatic incident outside the Santander bank, on Lord Street, Fleetwood, just before 6pm on Thursday.
The getaway car, a dark coloured Hyundai Coupe, has since been found abandoned in an alleyway off Dryden Road, Fleetwood, and it is believed the offenders changed cars in the area shortly after the robbery in a bid to escape unnoticed.
Det Insp Phil Jones added: “Having now found the initial vehicle that it would appear the offenders used to escape the scene, it has become clear that we may now be looking for at least one more vehicle that may have been involved.
“I would also appeal to anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity earlier the day or even days beforehand to contact us if they have any information that they think might help.”
The incident comes in the week Lancashire police launched a campaign aimed at cutting cash-in-transit robberies.
Anyone with any information should contact police on 101.
