A dog will be put to sleep after it attacked a six-year-old girl.

The girl, who was on holiday in Blackpool with her family when the attacked happened at the junction of General Street and Banks Street, in North Shore.

The attack left her with wounds on her leg and she was treated at Blackpool Victoria Hospital after the incident, which took place on Thursday lunchtime.

The girl and her family have since returned to their home in Whitehaven, Cumbria.

Her injuries are not serious and a spokeswoman for Lancashire Police said the family “just want to put the incident behind them.”

The spokeswoman added: “The owner of the Canario dog involved in the attack has agreed to have it put down.

“There will be no prosecution.

“Both parties are satisfied with the outcome.”
