A court has agreed to a benefit cheat’s curfew being lifted for one day so he can be best man at the wedding of a friend who is terminally ill.

Conor Wiletts illegally claimed more than £6,000 in benefits from Blackpool Council between April and September last year.

Wiletts, 43, of Langdale Road, Mereside, pleaded guilty to failing to notify a change in circumstances.

He had failed to declare his wife was working full-time at Ladbroke’s.

He was sentenced to a six-week electronically tagged curfew from 7pm to 7am and ordered to pay £180 costs plus £60 victim’s surcharge by Blackpool magistrates.

Wiletts asked if the curfew could be lifted on July 29.

The court heard he had previously suffered severe injuries to his brain and body in a road accident.
