Cheese fell from thief’s pocket

Blackpool Magistrates Court

Blackpool Magistrates Court

CHEESE fell out of a shoplifter’s jacket and a joint of meat was found in his rucksack after he tussled with store staff.

Christopher Gaydon, 35, of Liverpool Road, central Blackpool, admitted theft of food valued at £27 from Sainsburys.

He was sentenced to a 28 days tagged curfew from 9pm to 8am and ordered to pay £30 compensation by Blackpool magistrates.

Tracy Yates, prosecuting, said a customer in Sainsburys told staff Gaydon was stealing items on February 4 at 8.40am.

When challenged Gaydon said he had nothing but when he left the store alarm sounded and staff apprehended him.

Gary McAnulty, defending, said at the time of the offences Gaydon had problems with his benefits and had no money at all.
