A heroin addict who stole a charity box was given a last chance Christmas present by a court – and not sentenced to prison.
Robert Benson, 42, of Shaw Road, South Shore, pleaded guilty to theft of a charity box belonging to Fylde Community Link.
He also admitted not complying with a court order for supervision and drug rehabilitation imposed for shoplifting offences and failing to answer bail and attend court.
He was sentenced to 24 weeks behind bars, suspended for 12 months, put on 12 months supervision with 12 months drug rehabilitation and ordered to pay £11 compensation to the charity by Blackpool magistrates.
Brett Chappell, defending, said Benson’s life had been devastated by his addiction and he needed professional help.
