A persistent burglar broke into a disused hotel in order to steal metal piping.

Leslie Potts, 23, of Windsor Avenue, South Shore, pleaded guilty to burglary at an address on Rigby Road with intent to steal.

He was bailed to appear for sentence at Preston Crown Crown on December 5 by Blackpool magistrates.

Tracy Yates, prosecuting, said Potts had four previous convictions for burglary.

On October 17 at 11am police were alerted someone was in a disused hotel.

Potts was found hiding in the shower of an en-suite bathroom. He had metal cutters with him and some cut copper piping.

David Charnley, defending, said at the time Potts’ benefits had been stopped.

He had no money or accommodation and was desperate, he added.

He went to the disused hotel aiming to steal metal to trade for cash.
