A TEENAGE burglar broke into a flat while the occupant was away and stole an engagement ring valued at £300.

Matthew Bryson, 19, of Albion Street, Fleetwood, pleaded guilty to burglary and breaching bail when he appeared before Blackpool magistrates.

Susan Doran, prosecuting, said a man left his flat on Milton Street, Fleetwood, for a week.

When he returned he found his front door had been forced open.

An engagement ring, stereo, freeview box, mobile phone, CDs and DVDs had been taken. DNA from blood on a biscuit tin matched Bryson’s.

When interviewed Bryson said he was homeless, so he found an empty flat and slept in it. He said he did not force his way in.

Patrick Nelligan, defending, said: “He has been in a difficult place.

“He had nowhere to stay. He is a very upset, troubled young man.”

Bryson was remanded in custody to February 24 for pre-sentence reports by Blackpool magistrates.
