Yobs who smashed glass in half a dozen bus shelters in a late night rampage have been slammed for their behaviour.

Residents in South Shore woke up to a trail of shattered glass following the incident in Lytham Road.

The destruction was spread over nearly a mile from the junction with Waterloo Road to the junction with Highfield Road.

A phone box was also targeted in the rampage.

Coun David O'Hara, who represents Waterloo Ward, today called for those responsible to be caught, making clear anti-social behaviour and criminal damage were a blight on the community.

He said: "This is a real problem.

"We have had gangs of youths roaming the streets causing problems.

"As fast as the glass is fixed it seems to be broken again.

"I don't know if this is youths or if it is people coming out of the pubs but it is not acceptable.

"At the end of the day the repairs are paid for by the council.

"That means everybody in Blackpool is paying the price for this."

Officers from South Shore neighbourhood policing team are investigation.

They have identified several youths who may have been involved.
