A terrified salon worker was threatened by a masked man brandishing a large kitchen knife and demanding cash.

The female worker was alone at Tanning Shop on Devonshire Road, close to Church Street in Blackpool, when the man came in at around 8.30pm on Thursday.

She put the salon’s cash drawer on the counter, and the man, whose face was covered by a scarf and the hood of his anorak which was pulled down, left with a quantity of cash.

He crossed Devonshire Road and walked up Newton Drive.

He is described as white, around 5ft 10ins tall and of slim build. He was wearing a black anorak, like a lightweight waterproof jacket, a black scarf an black gloves.

The knife was described as being ‘dirty’, with a blade around eight inches long which was rusty on the side and had a serrated blade and a point at the end.

Det Con Ian Massey said: “Thankfully the shop assistant wasn’t physically hurt but she has been left shaken by what has happened.

“If anybody has any information at all about this incident then I would urge them to contact police.”
