A woman started work at a medical centre despite claiming a state benefit because she was unfit to take a job.
Deborah Mashford, 40, of Cavendish Road, Blackpool, started work at the St Paul’s Medical Centre earning up to £1,000 a month.
Mashford continued to claim incapacity benefit and housing benefits and she should have told the authorities, the town’s magistrates heard.
She admitted failing to tell the Department of Work and Pensions and Blackpool Council about changes in her circumstances, her work and the fact she and her husband had moved address.
It was said Mashford was overpaid more than £7,800 as a result.
She was fined £200 and ordered to pay £105 costs.
Alan Godwin, defending, said: “Mrs Mashford and her husband moved to Blackpool to get a fresh start. They got a new home but her husband lost his job and they fell into debt.
“When she was confronted about this she was forthright with authorities.”
