A WOMAN who failed to declare her boyfriend was living with at her home has been convicted of benefit fraud.

Laura Wilson, 24, of Larkholme Avenue, Fleetwood, had been receiving housing and council tax benefits plus income support as a single parent and fraudulently claimed more than £20,000 over two years.

Wyre Council and the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) launched a joint investigation into the case following a tip off and officers found that her partner was also living at the address.

As a result she was overpaid £22,913 in benefits between May 2010 and August 2012.

Wilson appeared at Fleetwood Magistrates Court on Tuesday and pleaded guilty to benefit fraud.

She was sentenced to eight weeks imprisonment suspended for 12 months and made subject of an eight week curfew order to remain indoors between the hours of 8pm and 6am.

Wyre Council will now seek recovery of the overpaid money directly from her.
