A couple who described themselves as animal lovers failed to get treatment for a cat with a raw and rotting wound.
Mark Beckett and his partner Ian Nixon were caring for the cat, named Pebbles, after an animal charity asked if they could look after him, as his owner had left him to live on the streets.
Beckett, 35, and Nixon, 49, of Healey Street, Layton, pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to an animal and failing to ensure its welfare.
They were each banned from keeping cats for five years and fined £110 with £120 costs plus £20 victims’ surcharge by Blackpool magistrates.
Hugh Pond, defending, said: “They did not cause the injury to the cat, but they were not as vigilant as they could have been in taking the cat to a vet.”
