Two people were today being quizzed by detectives after a three-week-old baby boy was left with serious head injuries.

The tot was today in Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool where his condition is described as ‘poorly’.

The boy was initially taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital on Wednesday where the police were told of his injuries.

A 23-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman, both from North Shore, were arrested by police at Blackpool Vic later that day.

They have been arrested on suspicion of wounding and are currently in custody being questioned by officers.

Police were granted more time to question the suspects during a 30-minute hearing before a district judge at Blackpool Magistrates Court.

They have until late on Saturday evening to either charge or release the suspects.

A Lancashire Police spokesman said: “A 23-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman, both from Blackpool, were arrested at Blackpool Victoria Hospital on Wednesday.

“They have been arrested on suspicion of Section 18 wounding and are currently in custody being questioned by officers.

“The baby has been transferred to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool where his condition is described as poorly.

“It would not be appropriate to comment any further at this stage and we will not discuss further the nature of the injuries.”
