VIOLENCE erupted in Blackpool town centre after Blackpool FC’s Lancashire derby with Bolton.
Police came under attack as around 40 visiting supporters clashed outside Molloy’s pub on Talbot Road on Saturday afternoon.
Officers donned riot gear to deal with the violence, described by one eyewitness as “terrifying”.
Three officers received minor injuries in the clashes, which did not involve Blackpool fans.
Some neighbouring shops had to close their doors while police brought the situation under control.
Eyewitness Alyssa Hinchcliffe, an assistant in Ladbrokes on Talbot Road, said: “I saw one riot van, then another and another until there was five on the street.
“I saw two policemen with cuts on their faces before they all went back to their vans to get their helmets and shields.”
The police were originally called to Molloy’s to diffuse the brawl but had to leave when bottles were thrown.
Gordon McCallum, from Blackpool, was on Talbot Road when the fight broke out.
He told The Gazette: “I was terrified and people were flying about everywhere.
