An army corporal who headbutted a young mother repeatedly in the face - leaving her with injuries to the bridge of her nose - has been jailed.

But Lance Corporal Lee Busano, 29, has been cleared of raping two women in a week and sexually assaulting another eight months later.

The women claimed to have been overpowered by the Assistant Physical Training Instructor - who is based at Weeton Army Camp.

And while Busano was acquitted of any sexual wrongdoing, the jury accepted he had left one of his alleged victims with a bleeding nose and cuts to her face after climbing on top of her and headbutting her several times.

Timothy Ashmole, prosecuting, told the court how muscular Busano, , overpowered the women “not only physically, but verbally and emotionally” and “took advantage of their vulnerability.”

Throughout the trial Busano - who is based at Weeton Barracks - appeared in the dock wearing full army uniform.

He told the court one of the women had rebuffed his sexual advances but had changed her mind when he offered to replace her hair straighteners, which had broken.

Any sexual activity which took place with any of the women was fully consensual, he told the court.

He has been jailed for 18 months after being convicted of ABH.
