Armed police arrested a man and a woman in front of stunned holidaymakers on Blackpool Promenade this morning.

Officers arrested the duo after three police cars penned in a black Vauxhall Corsa outside the Lyndene Hotel in South Shore around 11am.

At least five officers carrying automatic weapons then arrested the pair, both believed to be in their 20s.

Traffic was shut off on the Promenade for around 30 minutes, with the Vauxhall towed away by police.

Around eight police cars and a police helicopter were involved in the incident.

Frank Swords, 72, visiting the resort from Oldham, said: “I saw all the police outside.

“It was like something out of a film. They arrested one chap and a girl too.

“There were six vans and a couple of cars, it must have been something serious.”
