The mystery surrounding the identity of a man whose body was found washed up on the beach in Fleetwood continues and police have issued a fresh appeal.

Detectives are calling for hotel bosses on the Fylde coast to get in touch if they have had any guests disappear unexpectedly.

Emergency services recovered the body of a middle-aged white man from the beach, close to Rossall Point, after he was spotted around a mile from land by a dog-walker on Monday evening.

The death is being treated as unexplained and investigations are on-going to identify the man. A post mortem exam will take place tomorrow to try to determine the cause of death.

A police spokesman said: “The identity of the man is still unknown. We would continue to appeal for information about his identity and would urge anybody, particularly local hoteliers, to contact police if they have any guests who have not returned or left unexpectedly.”

Anyone with information should call police on 101.
