Police have today launched a new appeal for information after thieves stole more than £7,000 of presents from under a tree on Christmas Eve, before ransacking a woman’s house.
Lara Penswick was devastated to find the carnage on returning from work to her home in Knowle Avenue, North Shore.
A Rolex watch, an Estee Lauder gift bag and £100 in cash were among the items taken from the house.
The thieves had smashed their way in by throwing a stolen ornamental hedgehog through the patio doors.
Shocked Lara, 35, said: “When I came back in I put my alarm off and then all I could hear was the wind because it was blowing a gale.
“My whole house was covered in glass and whoever had done it had left a footprint.
“They smashed up my lounge and took the presents.”
Lara estimates the thieves took around three quarters of the presents from under her tree.
The theft occurred just one week after Lara had her bike stolen from her garden shed.
She added: “I’m the only house on the whole street to have been targeted.
“I’m absolutely petrified now and I’ve had a louder alarm bell put in on the outside. I’ve got a friend coming round to fit CCTV cameras too now because it’s scary.”
The attack happened between 9am and 5.15pm on December 24.
A spokesman for Lancashire Police said: “They broke in through the patio door round the back, went upstairs and searched the drawers and bedrooms. They stole a silver ladies’ Rolex watch and other presents such as a scarf, biscuits and chocolates.”
Anyone with information should call 101.
